Butterfly #3

Photographed at Marine World in their exquisite butterfly exhibit. It was sweltering inside the exhibit and the butterflies roamed around freely. It alone is worth the price of admission.

I believe that this butterfly is Heliconius melpomone, from Central and South America. What is special about this butterfly is that it is a hybrid between 2 or 3 subspecies of the butterfly. H. melpomone occurs in different forms throughout its range, and by crossing these forms a vast range of patterns has been achieved, in fact, there are very few individuals alike.
