Golden Gate

Copyright Barbara Samuelson 1997
The Golden Gate Bridge photographed from the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The Golden Gate Raptor Observatory is there and the Parks department gives talks about the birds they band.

For more information on the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory, check out The Golden Gate Raptor Observatory.

Just above the bridge to the right you can see Yerba Buena Island where the two spans of the Oakland Bay bridge meet. I can't remember which side of the bridge it was that had the piece fall out during the earthquake. Pretty exciting!

For more information about local earthquakes check out Recent Earthquakes in California and Nevada. Also, check the Probabiltic Seismic Hazard Map for California; this displays the impact of a major earthquake for all regions of the state.

You can see Alcatraz just up and to the left of the bridge. You can also see that the bridge isn't gold. It was a sparkling clear day, almost a rarity around here. Hope you enjoy it.
