Great Blue Heron

Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias). Large, gray-blue heron;
black strip extends above eye; white foreneck is streaked with black.
This bird is often miscalled a "crane" and may stand 4 feet tall.Breeding
adult has yellowish bill and ornate plumes on head, neck, and back. Length
46 inches, Wingspan 72 inches. Voice: Deep harsh croaks Frahnk, frahnk,
frahnk. Its habitat includes marshes, swamps, shores, and tideflats.
This heron was hunting in a swamp for small frogs at Abbotts Lagoon,
Pt. Reyes, California.
