Ring-necked Duck
Copyright Barbara Samuelson 2003Ring-necked Ducks (Aythya collaris) are diving ducks in the Pochard
group that must take a running start on water for take-offs. They are
fairly common in freshwater marshes and on woodland ponds. This male (on
the right) and female were photographed at Rodeo Lagoon in the Marin Headlands.
