Copyright Barbara Samuelson 2006
Black-necked Stilt (Himantopus mexicanus) photographed
at the Palo Alto Baylands, CA. They generally breed and winter in
both fresh water and salt water habitats. They have long pink legs,
a very long thin straight bill, and their legs extend well beyond
their wings when in flight. It feeds on the water's surface while
standing. Common call is a loud kek kek kek.
