Chilkoot Weir
Copyright Barbara Samuelson 1997
This is the salmon weir set up at the Chilkoot River just outside
the city of Haines, Alaska. The Department of Fish and Game set the weir
up to count the salmon as they swam upstream. This fellow stayed there
all day netting the salmon as they were funneled into the open spot in
the weir, measured and weighed them, and flung them back into the river.
