Western Grebe
Western Grebe (Aechmophorus occidentalis) of the Family Podicipedidae
have lobed toes that make them strong swimmers. The nest in reeds along
broad freshwater lakes. Call is a loud two-note kreek-kreek. They
can, with some difficulty be distinguished from Clark's Grebe mainly by
the black cap extending to include the eyes. The bill is supposedly more
greenish than that of the Clark's.
